You have provided essential information that I wish I had 48 years ago. I have mostly been working in acrylics, soft pastel, and sculpting. All of a sudden every single time I paint I get bronchitis, asthma, and sinus issues.

I just found this video and then discovered she passed on not long after. Her name was familiar but I can not remember from where.....workshop, painting competition, gallery? Her work looks familiar to me. Anyway, I would say one can not for certain pin the cause on anything. But for certain we are using way too many synthetic paints, solvents, glues, etc. I always got a headache instantly from mineral spirits, which is synthetic, and avoid it. And also any drying synthetic glue (pva) or acrylic paints, or alkyds. Our bodies tell us when something is not right. I would also be careful about using any refined linseed oil as you do not know what goes into the process, or is added these days. Good luck everyone and RIP Mary.

How does olive oil rank for cleaning brushes, i use it and its great for conditioning the bristles bit i dont use it as a medium as its so strong and yellow... Any issues with it for cleaning, then using a non toxic vegetable solvent then washing with soap

I so miss her. I thought all her videos would be removed. Instead I see videos have been added. I started these classes some time ago, but had to stop. I believe it had to do with loss of employment. I know it was lack of funds. I told her I'd be back, because I truly wanted her instruction. When I went back, I found out she had passed away. I hope I offered condolences. I followed her for the longest time, and received her emails with her small paintings she did. I remember being so impressed that she could paint something so simple, and make it look so beautiful. Not all of them looked simple, but I knew I could lean so much frm her. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found these yesterday. How do you responsibly dispose of the sludge at the bottom of your oil? Or turps/OMS/whatever you use to clean your brushes, and rags or paper towels with toxic pigment on them?

Someone's probably already said this, but you don't have to cover a container of linseed oil, except to prevent oxidisation, any more than you'd have to worry about a cup or so of olive oil combusting. A paint factory has a lot of oil and oily cloths, far more than any home or studio painter would have, unless you're just hoarding a considerable stash of oily rags or paper towels together.

When I mixed purple & yellow I'd always get brown.

She was such an amazing artist and teacher. She just breathes life into my creative side and makes me want to paint all day everyday. I wish I could have taken one of her classes and gotten to know her better. You are missed and your inspiration lives on-like CR said!

how can i thin the oil paint without solvent? Im allergic to it. The paint i have is quite stiff from the tube. I need an alternative to thin the paint for that initial toning of the canvas and also to make the paint flow and become the consistency of creamy, buttery softness?

today with good and even better substitutes available , there is no longer the need to use toxic paints, the cadmiums, cobalts, etc, but people still use them....very strange

I use a brush dip with safflower oil and clove oil . When I wash them I use Murphy’s oil soap.
